Manchester United 1-0 Middlesbrough Dimitar Berbatov scored the only goal as Manchester United kept up the pressure on Liverpool and Chelsea.
Middlesbrough defended stoutly and made it tough for Sir Alex Ferguson's men who were grateful for the break-through on 69 minutes when Berbatov volleyed home from 10 yards after Michael Carrick's cross from the left had rebounded off David Wheater. The victory keeps United hard on the heels of the top two in the Barclays Premier League and leaves Boro fourth from bottom and out of the relegation zone only on goal difference.
